GCC and Sweden look to ramp up cooperation in ‘several areas’

Munich, Germany— The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Sweden have discussed ways to ramp up cooperation in several areas, besides looking to enhance ties between the GCC and variou European nations.

In this regard, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC, and Tobias Billström, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, held talks to look at ways to achieve mutual goals and promoting common interests for both sides.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the GCC chief’s participation in the 60th Munich Security Conference, in Munich, Federal Republic of Germany.

The two sides also discussed the outcomes of the 27th GCC-European Joint Ministerial Meeting held in Muscat in 2023, where they emphasised the importance of moving forward in implementing the agreements and understandings reached during this meeting.

They also addressed the development of the cooperation mechanism between the GCC and Sweden on a bilateral level, as well as with the European Union through the GCC-European Joint Action Programme for the years 2022-2027.

They exchanged views and elaborated on various regional and international issues, notably the ongoing events in the Gaza Strip and the continued Israeli violations, in addition to their serious repercussions on the region and the world.
