Iraqi PM planning to visit Moscow in coming weeks: Foreign Minister

  • "The two sides discussed prospects for joint cooperation and developing bilateral relations between the two countries," Iraqi foreign ministry said.

Baghdad, Iraq — Iraq is working to complete the necessary preparations for the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to Moscow in the next few weeks, said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein.

“Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met with Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs-MOFA in a statement, according to INA.

The statement added, “The two sides discussed prospects for joint cooperation and developing bilateral relations between the two countries.”

“The talks between the two sides during the visit will provide an opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation in the political and economic fields,” he said, and affirmed the “possibility of holding the meeting of the Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee on the sidelines of this visit”.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed “his country’s keenness to develop bilateral relations between the two friendly countries,” and said “his country looks forward to the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani to Moscow during the next few weeks”.
