Beijing, China – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is embarking on a visit to the Middle East next week,  state media agency CGTN reported on Sunday. Wang’s visit comes amid escalating tensions in the region and reflects China’s commitment to playing a more prominent role in the resolution of the conflict.

Wang Yi is expected to engage with various stakeholders, including Israeli and Palestinian officials, as well as regional partners. The visit is aimed at promoting peace, de-escalation, and the protection of civilians, as well as strengthening coordination with all parties involved in the conflict.

China has consistently positioned itself as a “friend to both Israel and Palestine” and has emphasized the importance of achieving a two-state solution. In recent statements, Chinese officials have expressed concern about the situation, with Wang Yi noting that Israel’s actions have gone beyond self-defense and calling for an end to collective punishment in Gaza.

Wang Yi’s visit to the Middle East underlines China’s evolving role in the region. While traditionally taking a more passive role in Middle East affairs, China has increasingly engaged with regional actors in recent years. This diplomatic effort reflects China’s growing commitment to playing a more active role in mediating and influencing the Israel-Palestine conflict.

As the situation in the Middle East remains complex and fluid, the international community will be closely watching the outcomes of Wang Yi’s visit and the role that China may play in shaping the path toward peace in the region.
