Amman, Jordan—Jordan and the US have reviewed their strategic partnership in a meeting between King Abdullah of Jordan and Mark Takano, Chairman of the US House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
The meeting covered the ties and the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, as well as means of expanding cooperation across all fields.
King Abdullah expressed Jordan’s appreciation of the support provided by the United States and its Congress in a number of sectors, stressing the importance of enhancing cooperation and maintaining coordination on issues of mutual concern in service of both countries.
The ties between the two countries have grown over the years. In September this year, the United States and Jordan signed an MoU on strategic partnership, whereby the former supports providing $1.45 billion per year in bilateral foreign assistance to the latter beginning in 2023 and ending in 2029.
The meeting also covered the latest regional and international developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, with His Majesty emphasizing the need to step up efforts to reach just and comprehensive peace, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Discussions touched on means of finding political solutions to regional and international crises and efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.
Around two months back, Jordan’s king Abdullah received another US congressional delegation headed by US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations member Senator Mike Rounds at Al Husseiniya Palace on Sunday.
The congressional delegation lauded the deep-rooted Jordanian-US ties, underscoring Jordan’s pivotal role in bolstering security and stability in the region, and commending the Kingdom’s efforts in hosting refugees.
Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan and US Ambassador to Jordan Henry Wooster attended the meeting.
