  • The meeting covered regional and international developments, especially the Palestinian cause
  • The meeting also discussed integrating efforts to counter food security, environment challenges

Jordan king Abdullah on Wednesday met the visiting European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at Al Husseiniya Palace and discussed food security, environment and the other regional and international issues.

At the meeting, which was also attended by Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, king Abdullah reaffirmed the deep-rooted partnership and friendship between Jordan and the European Union, expressing keenness on expanding cooperation across various fields.

He highlighted the importance of the 14th meeting of the Jordan-EU Association Council, held recently in Jordan as the first meeting to take place in an EU partner country from the southern region, expressing appreciation of the EU’s support for the Kingdom.

The meeting covered regional and international developments, especially the Palestinian cause, with the king calling for stepping up efforts to move the peace process forward and break the stalemate, while ending the cycle of violence threatening regional stability and security.

In addition, the meeting discussed means of coordinating and integrating efforts to counter challenges related to food security, the environment, and climate change.

President von der Leyen undermined “the deep-rooted relations” between Jordan and the EU, stressing the EU’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom.

The European Commission president also lauded Jordan’s pivotal role in the region and its efforts to reach political solutions to regional crises and bolster regional partnerships.
