Beirut, Lebanon – After two years of negotiations, Lebanon and Israel are close to concluding maritime border talks that could help allocate oil and gas resources, a top Lebanese security official quoted by local channel Al-Jadeed said on Tuesday.
“We’re talking about weeks – actually, days – to finish the delineation issue. I’m hopeful that the situation is positive,” the head of Lebanon’s General Security agency Abbas Ibrahim said.Â
Negotiations between Lebanon and Israel have been mediated by the US to delineate a shared maritime border that will help determine which oil and gas resources belong to which country.
Last week, Ibrahim met with US mediator Amos Hochstein, who said his hours-long visit to Beirut on September 9 showed talks were making “very good progress.”
