ABU DHABI — The UAE’s participation in the G20 meetings highlights its strong commitment to advancing multilateral cooperation and achieving global priorities across all sectors, said the country’s Minister of State Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh.

This aligns with its active involvement in international forums and organizations, he pointed out on the sidelines of the 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi.

“The UAE and India have robust, deep-rooted bilateral relations. The signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2017 and the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2022 reflects both countries’ eagerness to strengthen and elevate these relations,” Al Sayegh told WAM.

Supported by India and founding countries, Al Sayegh noted that the UAE’s invitation to the G20 Summit recognizes its significant presence and role on various fronts. He also highlighted the UAE-India cooperation in regional organizations like the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), the I2U2 Group, and the BRICS group, which the UAE recently joined.

Discussing the UAE’s ongoing involvement in the summit, Al Sayegh emphasized that this marks the country’s second consecutive year of participation in the group’s meetings, following its successful attendance at last year’s Indonesia Summit, and its third time since 2020.

“As a guest country, the UAE is committed to collaborating with international partners to promote economic growth and equitable development globally,” he said.

Al Sayegh added that the UAE supports India’s G20 agenda and strategy, pointing out the country’s participation in about 25 meetings held throughout the year, including the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting and the Sherpa meeting.

He stressed that the UAE’s role in this year’s G20 Summit is especially significant, as it coincides with the country hosting the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in November at Dubai Expo City.

This offers an opportunity for greater alignment between the G20 agenda and COP28, particularly in discussions and initiatives related to climate action, energy transition, and sustainable development financing.

“The UAE is resolved to advance international efforts within the G20 to address the common challenges the world is facing, aiming for global stability and prosperity,” he said.
