Russia becomes world’s fourth-biggest LNG producer, says PM

MOSCOW, RUSSIA – Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said the country became the world’s fourth-biggest LNG producer last year.

The Russian Prime Minister said this in an annual report at the State Duma (lower house of the parliament), TASS reported.

“Energy is adjusting gradually as well. A serious adjustment of logistics was required here, which takes time. But in a number of segments there is notable progress. Last year the country became the world’s fourth-biggest producer of liquefied natural gas,” he said.

Mishustin also noted that the volume of LNG exports rose almost three-fold in six years.

Meanwhile in January – February 2024, natural gas production in Russia increased by 11.3 percent year-on-year to 110 billion cubic meters (bcm), according to the Russian State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

Gas production in February amounted to 54.3 bcm, which is 2.5 percent lower than in January and 16.3 percent more than in February 2023.
