The annual Sharjah Heritage festival to kick off in March

The 19th edition of the annual Sharjah Heritage Days festival will take place from 10th – 28th March 2022.

The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) announced that the festival’s slogan will be “The Heritage and the Future”.

A total of 33 countries would participate in the event including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar from the GCC.

Armenia will be the official guest of honor this year due to its rich and diverse cultural stock, while Indonesia will be the distinguished guest.

The event will witness the attendance of several international organizations, including UNESCO, the International Organization for Folk Art, and the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts.

Locally, 28 government entities will be participating in the event as well as various local, Arab and international universities and cultural centers would also attend it.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at Heritage area in Sharjah, by Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of SIH and Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of Sharjah Heritage Days, and a few others.

Al Musallam said, “The theme of the festival refers to the need to identify future challenges and to meet them with a forward-looking vision that is in harmony with heritage.”

He stressed that the procedures adopted by the Emirate to protect heritage are in line with the requirements set by UNESCO to preserve human heritage.

The festival serves as an important addition to the global efforts that seek to protect human heritage, he added.
