Most Emiratis believe opening live events only to vaccinated people will help curb Covid

    • After vaccination, residents most comfortable visiting beaches, parks

    • Fewer people would like to attend weddings, live concerts or travel abroad

Seven out of 10 UAE residents said that the Dubai government’s decision to allow only vaccinated people to access entertainment and social activities will curb the spread of Covid-19 infection.

The residents were surveyed by YouGov about Dubai government’s recent easing of restrictions on live entertainment and social activities on the condition that spectators and participants of such events should be vaccinated for Covid-19 and must observe the required precautionary measures.

When asked about this new rule only half of UAE residents (49%) claimed they had heard about it and were aware of all the rules. Some had heard about it but were not completely aware of the rules (28%), while others were totally unaware (17%) or unsure about it (6%).

Among the surveyed respondents, three in five claim to have taken all injections required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. One in seven (14%) have started the process but need another shot while one in five (19%) intend to take the shots soon. The rest are either unwilling or unsure about getting vaccinated (7%).

It seems the new mandate is likely to encourage people to get vaccinated, as 65% of residents out of those who have not taken a single injection (those who plan to, do not intend to or are unsure) said they are likely to take the covid vaccination following the new directive.

As many as 1006 respondents in the UAE were surveyed between May 26 and June 2 using YouGov’s panel of over 11 million people worldwide.

When asked about the different places they will be comfortable visiting after vaccination, UAE residents showed the greatest comfort in visiting outdoor public places such as beaches, parks, etc. (68%), followed by indoor public places (museums, malls, etc), and hotels and resorts (64% each).

A large proportion of the residents is relaxed about taking domestic trips (62%) or attending sporting events (51%). In comparison to this, people are less comfortable with international travel (49%), wedding events (44%) or live concerts (43%).

Men are notably more comfortable than women in visiting all the above-mentioned places post vaccination.
