Amid escalating tensions between United States and Iran, at least eight countries have issued travel advisories or begun withdrawing diplomatic staff and their dependents from parts of the Middle East.
Several governments have urged their citizens to leave Iran immediately, while others are pulling non-essential embassy personnel from sensitive locations, citing security concerns.
Australia has directed dependents of its diplomats in Israel and Lebanon to leave, pointing to a worsening security situation in the region. Canberra has also offered voluntary departures for diplomats’ dependents in some Gulf countries. It continues to advise citizens in Israel and Lebanon to consider leaving while commercial travel options remain available.
Serbia has asked its nationals in Iran to depart as soon as possible, warning of heightened tensions and the possibility of further deterioration in the security environment.

Sweden’s Foreign Ministry advised its citizens on January 12, 2026, to avoid all travel to Iran and to leave the country immediately. In February, the foreign minister warned that those who chose to remain should not expect government assistance for evacuation.
India has also taken precautionary steps. The Indian embassy in Iran, in a post on X dated February 23, 2026, advised citizens currently in the country to leave using available means of transport, including commercial flights.
Similarly, Cyprus on January 13, 2026, urged its citizens to avoid all travel to Iran and to leave the country immediately.
