Riyadh, Saudi Arabia–Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Ports (Mawani) has signed a contract with Globe Group, a marine services company, to establish an integrated logistics zone and a re-export zone in Jeddah Islamic Port on an area of 135,000 square meters.
Mawani said the logistics zone will enhance the port’s competitive advantage and support national companies specialized in the logistics sector.
Jeddah Islamic Port is the first port for Saudi exports and imports, and the first re-export point in the Red Sea, through which 75 percent of the incoming maritime and transshipment trade comes through Saudi ports, which contributes to enhancing the port’s distinguished operational capabilities and value-added services provided to customers.
Mawani had recently signed agreements to establish five logistics areas in Jeddah Islamic Port with an investment of 2 billion riyals and provide 6,000 direct and indirect job opportunities in the first phase.
The areas will be established in an integrated partnership with local and international companies— Maersk, CMA CGM, LogiPoint, DB World, Bahri—to enhance its competitiveness and consolidate its logistical position.
Mawani said Jeddah Islamic Port is witnessing development operations aimed at improving its operational operations and increasing its capacity through development programs and commercial support contracts concluded by Mawani with its strategic partners to raise the efficiency of operating container terminals, deepen approach channels, circulation docks and sea lanes, as well as establish new berths with greater design depths that can receive large ships.
