The AED256-million ($69.7million) project by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority to extend water transmission by 36.6 km across Dubai is a fraction away from completion, said local reports on Sunday, July 4.
The reports said while plans call for the project to be finished by August 2021, it is already 96.4% complete.
The project reportedly has two sections. Section A consists of 12.52 km of 1200mm-diameter pipelines, while Section B has 13.97 km of 1200mm and 10.15 km of 600mm pipelines, reaching a total of 24.12 km.
The project is said to include the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of glass-reinforced epoxy water pipes in different diameters, and also precast chambers.
DEWA Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer was quoted as saying that with this pipeline it has made efforts to improve the transmission network’s efficiency and reliability, as well as increase the water flow.
Apparently, these efforts have cut water-transmission and distribution losses from 42% in 1988 to 5.1%in the current situation.
Abdullah Obaidullah, executive vice-president of Water and Civil at DEWA, was quoted by the reports as saying that the project locations include extensions along Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, and connections between the Hassyan Pump Station to Dubai Investments Park and Dubai World Central.
It continues from Nakhali Reservoir to Alaweer roundabout alongside the Dubai-Hatta Road and Muhaisnah, and from Margham wells to Dubai Al Ain Road, he added.
