Zain KSA top performer in 5G services

    Zain KSA, a leading telecom service provider in Saudi Arabia, has been ranked first for delivering the best 5G services during the first quarter of 2021.

    The company ranked first in the Meqyas report issued by the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), topping all indicators measured in the ranking.

    Zain KSA came in first in the 5G deployment across the Kingdom (Number of Governorates with 5G) indicator for the second consecutive quarter, covering 43 governorates. It also ranked first in the mobile 5G average download speed.

    The company continued to lead in 5G deployment across the Kingdom’s regions, with its services covering 12 out of 13 administrative regions. It also topped the Fixed Internet Video Streaming quality indicator with 99.87%. In terms of Latency for Most Used Social Media Platforms in the Kingdom, Zain KSA ranked first in the Twitter application.

    Global network testing and benchmarking firm, umlaut, had previously identified Zain KSA as a leading operator in data performance with its 5G network and other technologies.

    Zain KSA demonstrated the strongest 5G coverage across Riyadh, where its users achieved the highest data stream download and upload speeds. It recorded the best mobile data experience in 4G and 5G in Riyadh, the strongest coverage and the highest peak data rates, with high reliability in all its services. It also had the fastest YouTube video start time and website browsing start time, which supports customers with fast browsing websites, downloading music (songs), browsing social media and uploading photos.

    The CITC quarterly releases Meqyas to measure Internet Speeds and Digital Content Access Speed in Saudi Arabia by comparing the speeds of service providers for download, upload and 5G speeds.

    The best performing operators are ranked in each region and the most commonly used social media applications and video games in the kingdom are covered in the survey.

    Through the publication, CITC aims to increase competition among service providers and enhance transparency in the sector by providing data and indicators to investors and parties interested in the sector’s performance in the Kingdom.
