Consumer Price Index in Qatar decreases by 0.10% in June

CPI in Qatar reached 105.71 points, showing a decrease of 0.10 percent when compared to CPI of May 2023.

Doha, Qatar – The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Qatar reached 105.71 points, showing a decrease of 0.10 percent when compared to CPI of May 2023, according to the Planning and Statistics Authority. 

Similarly, an increase of 2.49 percent was recorded in the general index (CPI) of this month, when compared to CPI of June 2022 on Y-o-Y basis. 

In June 2023, the CPI experienced some notable changes when compared to May 2023. Among the main components, four groups saw an increase, four groups saw a decrease, and four groups remained unchanged.

The groups that witnessed a decrease were “Clothing and Footwear,” which decreased by 2.06 percent, “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel,” which decreased by 0.77 percent, “Recreation and Culture,” which decreased by 0.70 percent, and “Miscellaneous Goods and Services,” which decreased by 0.51 percent.

On the other hand, there was an increase in the following groups: “Food and Beverages” increased by 1.33 percent, “Transport” increased by 0.53 percent, “Restaurants and Hotels” increased by 0.07 percent, and “Furniture and Household Equipment” increased by 0.03 percent. The groups “Tobacco,” “Health,” “Communication,” and “Education” remained unchanged at the same price level as the previous month.

In a year-on-year comparison of the CPI for June 2023 with June 2022, there was an overall increase of 2.49 percent. This increase was primarily driven by price rises in nine groups. 

The largest increases were observed in “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” at 5.88 percent, “Recreation and Culture” at 5.85 percent, and “Education” at 4.06 percent. 

Other groups that experienced price increases included “Furniture and Household Equipment,” “Clothing and Footwear,” “Transport,” “Health,” “Restaurants and Hotels,” and “Miscellaneous Goods and Services.” 

However, there were decreases in “Communication” by 4.04 percent and a marginal decrease in “Food and Beverages” by 0.01 percent. The “Tobacco” group remained unchanged.

Excluding the “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” group, the CPI for June 2023 stood at 107.94 points, representing a 0.06 percent increase compared to the May 2023 index. When compared to June 2022, the CPI of June 2023 increased by 1.70 percent.

These changes in the CPI reflect the fluctuating prices across various goods and services, highlighting the impact on consumer spending and inflation trends.
