BAGHDAD, IRAQ – Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Mohammed Hamel on Friday stressed the importance of Iraq in the oil and gas sector.
Iraqi Ministry of oil said in a statement, “Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani, met GECF Secretary General Hamel in Vienna.”
The ministry said, “They discussed developments in the gas sector in the world and stressed the importance of supporting gas and renewable energy investment projects.”
The ministry added, “They discussed the role of the oil and gas sector in addressing environmental impacts.”
The statement pointed out that the oil minister spoke on the development of the gas sector in Iraq.
The Iraqi oil minister said that government support for investment of gas contributes to the promotion of associated industries.
The minister referred to the “national strategy aimed at investing gas, as well as the development and investment of exploration sites with hydrocarbon – gas compositions through cooperation with specialized international companies.”
He also referred to “the exploitation of smart technologies to increase energy efficiency.”
Hamel stressed the “importance of the role played by Iraq in the oil and energy sector.”
