AlUla, Saudi Arabia — AlUla Desert Blaze, a unique running challenge, which kicked off on Saturday and saw participation of nearly 200 male and female runners from 39 countries, has been hailed as the most arduous competition in the Arabian Gulf region.

The participants faced the toughest challenges amid scorching summer heat, enduring temperatures reaching up to 43 degrees Celsius, cementing AlUla’s position as a flourishing destination for top-tier sporting events, SPA reported.

The racetrack, set amid the breathtaking natural landscapes of the historic AlUla region, witnessed athletes running by the Hegra Archaeological Site, the Kingdom’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Additionally, the route encompassed a variety of significant historical sites.

Vice President of Destination Management and Marketing Office at the Royal Commission for AlUla, Rami Almoallim, emphasized that the race represents a novel experience for participants.

He said the race provided runners with an exhilarating challenge that ranks as the most arduous in the region, surpassing all expectations.

Almoallim added that the race standards were reflected in the “global athletes who undertook the challenge with resolute determination, showcasing their passion and pushing themselves to the utmost limits of endurance”.
