Israeli forces detain 4,695 Palestinians in West Bank since Oct 7

  • The statement said Israeli forces continue to carry out widespread acts of abuse, brutal assaults, on-field interrogations, and threats against detainees and their families.
  • Since Oct 7, West Bank Palestinians have witnessed growing settler violence and the displacement of small herding villages on land coveted by Israel.

Ramallah, West Bank – The Israeli occupation forces have arrested nearly 4,695 Palestinians in the West Bank since the outbreak of the aggression against the Palestinian people on Oct. 7, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Authority.

In a brief statement released Sunday, the PPS outlined that the tally includes the Palestinians detained at their homes and at military checkpoints, in addition to those who surrendered under pressure and those taken hostage, QNA reported.

The statement added that the Israeli occupation forces continue to carry out widespread acts of abuse, brutal assaults, on-field interrogations, and threats against detainees and their families.

Additionally, there have been reports of extensive sabotage and destruction of homes belonging to Palestinian civilians, coupled with the confiscation of their properties, added the statement. (QNA)

With international attention focused on the war in the Gaza Strip, a major escalation in the Israeli-occupied West Bank is attracting far less attention than it deserves. In fact, another Israeli-Palestinian battlefront is taking shape there, and all signs point to increased bloodshed.

Since the Gaza war started on October 7 with Hamas’s attack in Israeli border communities, already vulnerable Palestinians in the West Bank have been facing intensified military incursions. This includes growing settler violence, often with the involvement of soldiers, and the displacement of small herding villages on land coveted by Israel.
