Egypt records 13 percent jump in food exports in first half

    Egypt has reported a 13 percent year-on-year increase in its food exports to $2.052 billion in the first half of 2021, compared to $1.820 billion, according to the data released by the Food Export Council on Monday.

    Over the course of the January-June period, March witnessed the highest value of food exports with a value of $382 million, while May saw the largest growth of 45% to $351 million.

    Arab countries topped Egypt’s food export market destinations with a value of $1.090 billion or 55%, followed by the European Union (EU) with $340 million or 14%.

    Saudi Arabia was the largest importer of Egypt’s food products with a value of $157 million, followed by the US with $110 million and Libya with $104 million.

    During the six-month period, the council sent trade missions to Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and South Sudan in a bid to boost exports to African countries.
