Saudi Arabia: Unvaccinated employees to face axe

    The people in Saudi Arabia who refuse to vaccinate could face summary dismissal from jobs for committing an act of gross misconduct after the government barred unvaccinated employees from entering private and public offices, reports in the  media said.

    The employers can dismiss employees who refuse to take the dose and they will not face a claim of unfair dismissal.

    Similarly, any government or private facility that is accommodative towards unvaccinated individuals risks penalties and fines.

    Already from August 1, the oil-rich kingdom has barred unvaccinated people from entering government and private establishments and also from using public transport.

    Also, they have been barred from attending any cultural, entertainment or sporting event. Ditto for entering educational institutions.

    The decision makes vaccination against the disease mandatory to enter any economic, commercial establishment or attending any cultural, entertainment or sporting event. The same rule applies to entering public or private education institutions. The immunisation is a must also for entering cafes, restaurants and barber shops.

    Nearly 27 million doses have since been administered in the country, according to the latest figures from the Health Ministry.
