Himalaya plans $32m factory in Dubai

  • The facility will produce 3 billion tablets, 15 million syrup bottles, and 3 million units of ointment every year
  • It will be set up in Dubai Industrial City, and create hundreds of specialized jobs

Indian herbal-product manufacturer Himalaya Wellness is planning to build an AED120-million ($32.6 million) herbal pharmaceutical plant in Dubai Industrial City, said local reports on Tuesday, August 17.

The facility is expected to produce 3 billion tablets, 15 million syrup bottles, and 3 million units of ointment every year.

It is expected to be set up in Dubai Industrial City, and create hundreds of specialized jobs.

The medicines made here will reportedly be exported to over 100 countries.

The facility is expected to start commercial production in the first quarter of 2024.

It will reportedly be spread on 760,000 sq ft of land, and be the first of three facilities Himalaya will build in Dubai Industrial City.

The herbal pharmaceutical facility will be followed by dedicated units for personal-care products and functional foods in future, said the reports.

Himalaya operates on a “seed-to-shelf” model, where captive farmland is used to grow organic herbs without pesticides and insecticides.

It has operations all around the world, and set up its R&D unit, Himalaya Global Research Centre, in Dubai Science Park in 2013.
