The United Arab Emirates will temporarily host 5,000 Afghans who have been evacuated from their country, local reports have said.
These are reportedly people who are on their way to a different country but need a layover of sorts.
Several world powers are facilitating the evacuation of Afghans from the country ever since it fell to the Taliban last week.
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced it would host the Afghans on a temporary basis.
This came following a request from the United States to do so, said the local reports.
The evacuees will apparently travel to the UAE from the Afghan capital of Kabul on US aircraft in the coming days.
The move follows the UAE’s recent facilitation of dozens of flights carrying hundreds of foreign citizens from Afghanistan, including diplomats and support staff from a range of nationalities and non-governmental organizations to UAE airports, said the reports.
The UAE has also facilitated the evacuation of approximately 8,500 foreign nationals utilizing its aircraft and airports from Afghanistan, they added.
