Iran to upgrade homemade Bavar 373 missile system

  • Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Mahdi Farahi made the announcement
  • This is a new edition that may be at the same or higher level than S400

Iran will soon upgrade the indigenously-made Bavar-373 missile system, said local reports on Tuesday, August 24.

The reports quoted the country’s Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Mahdi Farahi making the announcement.

“New editions of the Bavar 373 are coming and soon,” he was quoted by the reports as saying.

This is “a new edition that may be at the same or higher level than S400,” he added.

He pointed out that sanctions over the past 40 years were the most important incentive for the country’s self-sufficiency in the defense field.

In relevant remarks earlier this month, a senior Iranian military official said a simulator for the Bavar 373 system would soon be unveiled.

Iran unveiled the surface-to-air Bavar 373 missile defense system, designed and manufactured by the country’s experts, in August 2019.

It is a mobile missile defense system designed to intercept and destroy incoming hostile targets.

The system reportedly employs missiles that have a maximum range of 300 kilometers.

The system is capable of simultaneously detecting up to 300 targets, tracking 60 targets at once, and engaging six targets at a time.
