Iran gives free electricity to 10m users

  • This is part of the Power of Hope program, which entails rewarding efficient subscribers with a 100 percent discount on their bills
  • The Iranian Energy Ministry program has reduced the number of high-consuming subscribers across the country by 6.1 percent

Iran has given free electricity to 10 million users since may, said local reports on Monday, September 6.

Iran’s Energy Ministry spokesman Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi was quoted by the reports as saying that the country’s free electricity program has covered more than 10 million subscribers since the third Iranian calendar month Khordad (which began on May 22).

He noted that this group has consumed less electricity than the consumption pattern.

In mid-April, Mashhadi had said that the implementation of the “Power of Hope” program had increased the number of low consuming subscribers by 4 percent.

The program entails rewarding efficient electricity subscribers with a 100 percent discount on their bills.

The reports said implementation of the program by the Iranian Energy Ministry has reduced the number of high-consuming subscribers across the country by 6.1 percent.

The program was aimed to change the attitudes of household consumers towards the proper use of energy resources and consequently protect the environment.

The Energy Ministry started the implementation of the mentioned program in mid-August 2020.
