Jordan launches weekly lottery to boost vaccination

Residents of Jordan will have the chance to win JD500 (around $705) via a weekly lottery if they take any Covid-19 vaccine.
  • The lottery scheme was launched by the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation and the Association of Banks in Jordan
  • The initiative is apparently aimed at incentivizing individuals to take the vaccine to immunize society as a whole

Residents of Jordan will have the chance to win JD500 (around $705) as part of a weekly lottery if they have been administered any Covid-19 vaccine, according to official sources.

The lottery scheme was launched by the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation or JRTV and the Association of Banks in Jordan or ABJ.

The scheme was announced via JRTV’s flagship Friday show Yesed Sabahak.

According to it, six lucky vaccinated people will receive JD500 each, provided that they had been inoculated in the week preceding the drawing.

This is regardless of whether it was their first or second shot, said the official sources.

The initiative is apparently aimed at encouraging individuals and incentivizing them to take the vaccine to immunize society as a whole.

The first drawing will reportedly be held on November 5. After that, each drawing is expected to continue to be broadcast on JRTV every Friday.

Organizers said that that during the vaccination process, individuals will be asked whether they want to have their names added to the lottery or not.

In an interview with JRTV’s Yesed Sabahak program, ABJ President Maher Mahrouq was quoted as saying that the initiative reflects the banking sector’s responsibility towards the national economy which needs to restore full normalcy.

He stressed that economic recovery at these difficult times can only be achieved through vaccination.

The first phase of the scheme is said to be funded by through donations by the Jordan Islamic Bank, Jordan Ahli Bank, Arab Bank, Cairo Amman Bank, Housing Bank for Trade and Finance, Capital Bank, and Arab Islamic Bank, in addition to mobile network operator Orange Jordan.
