Riyadh Art launches Tuwaiq Sculpture Symposium

The 25 day Tuwaiq International Sculpture Symposium, also known as Tuwaiq Sculpture, is set to begin  from November 15 to December 10, 2021 in Riyadh. It will feature 20 international avant-garde artists working together to sculpt live under the theme ‘The Poetics of Space’ this year.

Artists from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, Mexico, Bulgaria, Colombia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, and Georgia are among those represented.

Tuwaiq Sculpture is the second public art programme to be launched as part of Riyadh Art, which aims to transform Riyadh into a global cultural hub. According to the reports, more than 400 sculptors across 71 countries applied to participate in the symposium.

The artists will use black and white marble to create a variety of sculptures live. Once completed, the project will be on display for the final four days of the symposium. Three winners will be selected by Riyadh Art Expert Panel before all 20 artworks are relocated to various prominent outdoor locations throughout the city. The symposium will also include over 30 free talks and workshops, as well as dozens of educational trips for students, bringing vibrant, inspiring experiences to the community, says local reports.

Riyadh Season and Riyadh Art have announced a collaboration with Tuwaiq Sculpture aims to provide artistic, cultural, and entertainment events to the local and international communities, as well as the selection of multiple locations within Riyadh for the permanent relocation of the winning sculptures.
