GCC Unified Military Command’s headquarters opens in Riyadh

The headquarters of the GCC Unified Military Command (UMC) was opened in Riyadh on Monday under the patronage of the crown prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. 

The opening was attended by Saudi Deputy Minister of Defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, GCC defense ministers, Commander of the GCC Unified Military Command Lieutenant-General Eid bin Awad Al-Shalawi and GCC Secretary General Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf. 

Al-Hajraf said the opening of the UMC comes as a message of peace  and determination to protect the GCC security and stability, adding the Command would be a deterrent against any foreign threat. 

In an inaugural speech, Al-Shalawi thanked the GCC Ministers of Defense for honoring the occasion and extended congratulations to its staff on the success of the joint GCC defense work process.

At the end of the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Defense unveiled the commemorative plaque for the opening of the headquarters, with the Commander of the GCC Unified Military Command hoisting the flag of the Unified Military Command.
