The US has assured the Palestinian authority that it is committed to a two-state solution, US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price has said in a statement.

The development apparently came when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday, January 31.

“They discussed the importance of strengthening the US relationship with the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian people,” said Price in the statement.

He added that they also discussed the need to improve the quality of life for Palestinians in tangible ways.

They also discussed the challenges facing the Palestinian Authority and the need for reform, said the statement.

Blinken reiterated that Israelis and Palestinians alike deserve to live safely and securely, and enjoy equal measures of security, freedom, and prosperity.

He also “reaffirmed the US administration’s commitment to a two-state solution,” said Price.

According to the official Palestine News & Info Agency (Wikalat al-Anba al-Filastinija or Wafa), Blinken also noted that the Biden administration was aware of the political and economic difficulties that the Palestinian Authority was going through.

The Wafa report also said Blinken Assured abbas that the two countries would “work jointly with everyone to move forward to achieve peace and stability in the region.”
