Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Saturday, February 6, met with top US officials in Amman to discuss Jordan-US ties and partnership, official sources have said.

He conferred with US Special Assistant to the President and National Security Council Senior Director for Middle East and North African Affairs Barbara Leaf, and Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Yael Lempert, said the sources.

The trio reportedly discussed the newly-signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the two countries’ partnership, which replaces the previous one that ends at the end of September.

Safadi, who is also the deputy prime minister, praised the US for its support for Jordan.

He also highlighted its importance for Jordan’s development efforts, as well as its efforts in grappling with the challenges of hosting refugees.

The US delegation reiterated the two countries’ “strategic relations” and Washington’s keenness to continue supporting the kingdom.

They are also said to have lauded Jordan for its contribution to upholding regional security and stability.
