Jordan’s Minister of Health Feras Hawwari has discussed the areas of cooperation with UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNFPA Deputy Executive Director/Programs, Diene Keita.

The meeting held Sunday explored ways to strengthen collaboration in assisting the government and the national health system in advancing the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights agenda.

It brought together officials from the ministry and UNFPA, covered ways by which UNFPA supports Jordan to achieve the 2030 agenda, a ministry statement said Monday.

Hawwari appreciated the UNFPA Jordan country office’s efforts to promote maternal and child health with the goal of achieving zero maternal mortalities.

This also contains zero unmet needs for family planning needs, and zero gender-based violence cases.

Keita reviewed key areas of cooperation with Jordan in the health sector, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She congratulated the government on its health sector achievements, and agreed that Jordan should demonstrate its success by documenting those achievements.

The UNFPA agreed to maintain coordination and collaboration with the ministry on specified objectives.

Majority of the objectives are to promote quality of care within the SRH realm of the Jordanian health system and the inclusion of the SRH in universal health coverage.
