Iraq allocates $2bn for Baghdad Metro project

Two billion dollars are allocated in the budget for Baghdad Metro project, Iraq’s Minister of Transport Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli said on Saturday.

The project was included in the budget for the year 2022, and an amount of two billion dollars was allocated by the Ministry of Finance and the ministry is awaiting the approval of the budget for the purpose of starting the signing of the contract,” Al-Shibli said to local news agency.

Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, had said that the phenomenon of traffic jams is unacceptable, while stressing the need to start Baghdad Metro project.

Al-Kadhimi stressed the “need to work for activating traffic lights in the streets of Baghdad, in order to find a legal traffic regulation and reduce traffic.”
