  • Leather, textile, medical supplies, chemicals, food, agricultural and livestock industries can access the Algerian market
  • There is a need for opening a direct maritime transport route between Jordan and Algeria

Jordan’s industrial goods have a great opportunity to gain a foothold in the Algerian market, president of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Fathi Al-Jaghbir said on Tuesday.

Al-Jaghbir said that leather, textile, medical supplies, chemicals, food, agricultural and livestock industries are the main products that can access the Algerian market.

He called for the reactivation of a 1997 trade cooperation agreement between Jordan and Algeria as well as a deal to promote and expand trade between Arab nations.

Al-Jaghbir also emphasized the need for talks about opening a direct maritime transport route between Jordan, Algeria and the other Arab nations in north Africa.

He said that the Amman and Jordan Chambers of Industry regularly hold bilateral meetings with Algerian businesspeople and traders to showcase and market Jordanian goods.

He said that the top exports from the Kingdom to Algeria are pharmaceuticals, packaging materials, and pesticides, while the top imports from the north African Arab country are sugarcane, petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons, tires, ceramic supplies and chocolate.

The total value of trade between Jordan and Algeria in 2021 was JD141 million.
