EU commercial flights surge 25 percent in August 2022

Brussels, Belgium – The number of commercial flights in August 2022 in the EU increased 25 percent compared to August 2021, Eurostat said in its report.

It is still below the pre-pandemic levels, but the gap is contracting (-14 percent compared with August 2019), the report mentioned.

The number of commercial flights recorded in Aug. 2022 was 596 930, compared to 478 996 in Aug. 2021, 324 538 in Aug. 2020 and 695 912 in Aug. 2019.

Also, some EU airports recorded increase in the total commercial flights compared with 2019.

The largest surge in commercial flights were recorded in Napoli Capodichino (+1 156, +14 percent), Kerkira Ioannis Kapodistrias (+1 026, +22 percent) and Santorini (+978, +30 percent).

In contrast, the largest decrease in commercial flights were recorded in Frankfurt Main (-10 554, -23 percent compared with August 2019), Milano Malpensa (-9 048, -34 percent) and Roma Fiumicino (-8 018,-27 percent).
