Kuwait City, Kuwait — The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Kuwait has inked a KD 6.7 million ($21.7 million) agreement with Finland’s Vaisala company to implement a state-of-the-art surface observation system and airport meteorological system at Kuwait International Airport.

Emad Al-Jalawi, the Acting Director-General of DGCA, told KUNA that the objective of this project is to enhance forecast surveillance around the airport’s three runways, thereby boosting flight safety.

This development comes as a crucial step towards modernizing Kuwait International Airport’s capabilities in weather monitoring and prediction.

Saad Al-Otaibi, DGCA’s Deputy Director-General for Planning and Projects Affairs, highlighted that the new system will significantly improve visibility along the runways. It will also provide comprehensive data on wind speed and humidity, crucial factors for safe aircraft operations.
