Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, has stressed the importance of developing the country’s electricity grids and benefiting from global expertise in this field.

The minister said this projected effort would enhance contribution of local energy sources to power generation and the overall energy mix.

Touring the Monitoring and Control Center of the National Electric Power Company (NEPC) on Saturday, he affirmed the need to coordinate the company’s efforts with Energy & Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) and Jordan’s generation and distribution companies to ensure sustainability of the electric grid and prepare to address any emergency glitches.

The minister said the world is witnessing a technological revolution in the energy field, especially the renewable sector, which should be taken advantage of to upgrade Jordan’s electric network and better utilize local energy sources.

These steps would raise contribution to electricity generation and the total energy mix in a way that improves performance and reduces operational costs, according to KHarabsheh.

The minister also stressed the importance of the Arab electric connection and efforts to increase its capacity in a way that enhances the electric system’s stability.

In turn, NEPC’s Head, Amjad Rawashdeh, said the company has operational strategies and plans to meet electricity demand locally, to ensure continued supply to all consumers in the Kingdom’s various areas.

The company, he said, has operational procedures to ensure grid sustainability and avoid any comprehensive outages affecting Jordan’s electric system.
