Morocco fisheries production has reached a record 1.4 million tons fetching the government 15 billion dirhams in 2021, an increase of 35 percent over the previous year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests said on Friday.
This remarkable performance was recorded in the three segments of fisheries:Â artisanal fishing (+66 percent), coastal fishing (+22 percent) and deep-sea fishing (+36 percent), said the Ministry.
Artisanal fishing has benefited from the increase in the turnover of octopus (74 percent of the total) due in particular to the rise in its average price by 53 percent.Â
The increase of coastal fishing has resulted from the growth in the turnover of cephalopods.
Similarly, deep-sea fishing, was also helped by the increase in the turnover of cephalopods due to the rise in average prices of these species, said the Ministry.
