Pact to transform Makkah, Madinah into business hubs for Islamic world

Three chambers of commerce will sign a partnership agreement next Wednesday to transform Makkah and Madinah into business and financial hubs of the Islamic world.

The Makkah Chamber of Commerce, Madinah Chamber of Commerce and the Islamic Chamber of Commerce will sign the agreement at the Makkah Chamber Center for Exhibitions and Events next Wednesday in presence of representatives from the 57 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and several diplomats.

Saudi Press Agency reported that the agreement is aimed at “investing in the sacred status of the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah in the world, and transforming them into a center of attraction for business activities, and a springboard for knowledge and creativity related to the Islamic world and Islamic practices.”

Abdullah Saleh Kamel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, said the agreement aims to provide logistical support on the ground in the holy cities, support investments there and provide all the necessary capabilities to raise the efficiency of the investment environment.

The tripartite partnership is aimed at boosting the business sectors in the holy cities through exhibitions and forums, future lectures, workshops, dialogues with decision-makers from the Islamic world, the movement of business delegations, trainings and dialogues with business leaders.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Madinah Chamber, Munir Muhammad Nasser bin Saad, said the agreement will contribute towards promoting cultural heritage of the holy cities. He added the agreement is line with the Kingdom’s transformative Vision 2030, which seeks to highlight the role of the two holy cities in promoting values, Islamic and national identity, enriching the religious and cultural experience of visitors in addition to developing and diversifying the economy.

Youssef Khalawi, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, said the partnership would enhance the momentum through various tracks to make Makkah and Madinah as attractive business destinations through workshops on new concepts in the business world, meetings at the international level, specialized lectures and forums.
