Abu Dhabi, UAE –  The UAE is growing the number of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations from 500 to 800 in the next few years.

This was stated by the country’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei,  on the sidelines of the ongoing World Utilities Conference 2023. The goal is to reduce the charging time while keeping efficiency high at a reasonable price.

The UAE, the ministry said, is mulling new legislation on EV charging stations.

Al Mazrouei said that the UAE boasts “state-of-the-art transport and distribution networks” in the world.

The UAE’s EV market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 30 percent until 2028. The country, according to an estimate, has one of the highest levels of EV acceptability with over 30 percent of residents who are considering to buy an EV.

The country also has one of the highest charging-to-vehicle ratios in the world.

Recent years have seen the UAE make a push towards adoption of electric vehicles. Abu Dhabi will build an electric vehicle assembly facility that will manufacture thousands of cars a year from its industrial zone. It has brought in smart electric firm NWTN as it looks to become an auto hub.

Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) is constructing a 25,000 square metre facility, which will be operated by NWTN, for the manufacturing, research and development, and vehicle testing of electric vehicles.
