Dubai to adopt WELL Health-Safety Ratings for buildings that are JOPs

    • DLD, through RERA, has reached an agreement on this with the International WELL Building Institute

    • The rating system includes 22 strategies to do things like help keep spaces clean and sanitized, provide essential health benefits and services, and assess air and water quality

Dubai’s Department of Land and Property, also known as DLD, will implement the WELL Health-Safety Rating for all jointly-owned properties under its purview, said local reports on Tuesday, June 22.

DLD, through its Real Estate Regulatory Agency, has reached an agreement on this with the International WELL Building Institute, said the reports.

The rating system includes 22 strategies to help keep spaces clean and sanitized, provide essential health benefits and services, communicate health and safety efforts, help everyone prepare for an emergency, and assess air and water quality, according to the IWBI.

DLD was quoted by the local reports as saying that it was working to promote world-class health and safety standards in the emirate’s properties in addition to confirming its recommendation to various relevant authorities to implement the program to prioritize the health and safety of people in JOPs across Dubai.

As part of its continuing efforts to achieve the highest international standards for the JOPs across Dubai, DLD is adopting the WELL Health-Safety Rating for its building.

Rera CEO Marwan bin Ghalita was quoted by the reports as saying that the rating draws on strategies from the WELL Building Standard to address health and safety needs.

By focusing on operational policies, such as air and water-quality management, maintenance protocols including cleaning and sanitization procedures, emergency plans and stakeholder engagement, the rating reportedly empowers organization to prioritize the health of their employees, visitors and stakeholders, he added.
