Non-oil sector fuels Bahrain economy growth

The GDP of Bahrain grew 5.72 percent at constant prices and 20.74 percent at current prices in the second quarter of 2021 as compared to the year-ago period, its Information and E-Government Authority (iGA) has estimated.

The results are said to be showing signs of economic recovery. This, even as the oil sector declined by 2.41 percent at constant prices and increased by 98.30 percent at current prices compared to the same quarter of 2020.

The overall growth is apparently due to the rise achieved by the non-oil sector of 7.78 percent at constant prices and 12.82 percent at current prices.

The rise is said to have been supported by transportation & telecommunications and hotels & restaurants activity.

The transport and telecommunications sector contributed 47.92 percent and 44.86 percent, followed by hotel and restaurant activity of 45.22 percent and 40.69 percent at constant and current prices, respectively.

This comes with the decisions of the gradual opening of commercial activities and the recovery of traffic and transport in the country.

Other social and personal services achieved a rise of 10.86 percent in constant prices and 20.77 percent at current prices.

Financial projects grew by 9.40 percent at constant prices and by 10.72 percent at current prices, while health services recorded an increase of 8.59 percent at constant prices and 7.21 percent at current prices.

Agriculture and fishing activity increased by about 5.57 percent at constant prices and 2.34 percent at current prices.

Real estate and business services increased by 4.73 percent at constant prices and 3.02 percent at current prices.

Trade grew by 4.17 percent and 2.66 percent at constant and current prices, respectively.

Other government services increased by about 3.34 percent at constant prices and 2.20 percent at current prices, respectively.

Manufacturing increased by 2.29 percent at constant prices and 24.21 percent at current prices.

Electricity and water activity increased by 2.80 percent and 1.06 percent at constant and ongoing prices, respectively, while construction activity grew 0.22 percent and 7.18 percent, respectively

Trade activity grew by 1.72 percent at constant prices and 0.56 percent at current prices.
