Ankara, Turkey – Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced on Friday the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Turkiye and Turkmenistan, focusing on collaboration in the natural gas sector and hydrocarbon partnerships.
Under the agreement, the initial phase will involve the transportation of up to two billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Turkiye.
Bayraktar outlined several potential routes for this transportation, including a swap arrangement via Iran or a combination of Iran and Azerbaijan. However, he emphasized that a primary consideration is the establishment of a pipeline traversing the Caspian Sea, offering a more sustainable and higher-capacity solution.
He underlined the significance of these discussions, highlighting the long-term benefits and varied alternatives being explored for the transportation of Turkmen gas to Turkiye.
