Geneva, Switzerland – The Gulf Cooperation Council countries have supported the efforts being made by the Sri Lankan government for national reconciliation geared  to defuse tension and bring political life back to normal. 

The Permanent Delegate of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in Geneva Abdulmohsen bin Khuthaila in his speech on the sidelines of an official debate on human rights in Geneva, said that the GCC backs all open and effective dialogue that enhances cooperation with the concerned countries to reach the best ways and practices to guarantee human rights.

Addressing the 51st session of the Human Rights Council which submitted for discussion a report on human rights in Sri Lanka, Khuthaila also stressed that enhancing human rights is a collective responsibility that requires intensive work, concerted dialogue and constructive cooperation.
