  • Iraq's Ministry of Migration and Displacement says they don't have the number of Iraqi refugees abroad
  • The ministry says it is ready for any situation for internally displaced persons as they possess adequate experience

Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement (MOMD) confirmed that they do not have a database of the numbers of Iraqi refugees abroad.

Ministry Undersecretary Karim Al-Nouri told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “There is a committee that includes the MOMD and the Ministry of Interior represented by the Directorate of Passports and Nationality concerned with granting the displaced their required documents, as well as following up on the refugee file outside Iraq.”

Al-Nouri said, “There is no database for the number of refugees outside Iraq.”

He said, “The ministry is ready and has tents for emergency situations;” noting that the MOMD has previous experience in dealing with any exigency, adding that everyone cooperates in emergency situations.

He said, “The camps for the IDPs cost huge sums of money in terms of relief, shelter and grants.”
