Qatar, UAE condemn Israeli attack on Gaza committee building

  • The incident, viewed as an extension of the occupation's pattern of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, has sparked international outrage, Qatar said.
  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) joined Qatar in denouncing the attack and emphasized the immediate need for a ceasefire.

Doha, Qatar — Qatar has strongly condemned the Israeli shelling of the Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza’s headquarters, denouncing it as a blatant violation of international law.

The incident, viewed as an extension of the occupation’s pattern of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, has sparked international outrage, QNA reported.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar issued a statement on Monday expressing profound concern over the bombing of the Qatar Committee’s headquarters.

This committee, dedicated to reconstructing Gaza and alleviating the suffering of its population amid a prolonged blockade and ongoing aggression, found itself in the crosshairs of Israeli forces, the Ministry said.

The ministry emphasized the urgent need for the international community to hold Israel accountable for its recurrent crimes against civilians and civilian infrastructure. It called for diplomatic pressure to ensure Israel’s compliance with international laws, stressing the importance of putting an end to the policy of targeting civilians and civilian facilities.

Furthermore, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the Israeli occupation to cease providing unsubstantial justifications for its actions, particularly when targeting civilian facilities and health institutions. It highlighted the use of misleading information and underscored the unacceptable nature of such actions under any circumstances.

The ministry defended the Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, noting its vital role in rebuilding what has been destroyed in the Gaza Strip during the repeated wars waged by Israel.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) joined Qatar in denouncing the attack and emphasized the immediate need for a ceasefire, prioritizing the preservation of civilian lives and ensuring the safe, urgent, and sustainable delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to the people of Gaza without hindrance.

The statement urged the international community to make concerted efforts to prevent further escalation in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Emphasizing the importance of achieving a full and just peace, the UAE called on global leaders to actively work towards preventing the region from descending into new levels of violence, tension, and instability.
