Regional players welcome ceasefire and political process in Yemen

Riyad, Saudi Arabia — Key regional players have welcomed the agreement – involving a comprehensive set of measures aimed at establishing a ceasefire, improving living conditions, and resuming political dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) – reached by the warring parties in Yemen. 

Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the recent agreement reached by concerned parties in Yemen. This pivotal agreement includes a nationwide ceasefire, initiatives to enhance living standards, and steps towards resuming a comprehensive political process under the UN’s guidance.

Albudaiwi emphasized that these measures could lead to a holistic political solution, vital for the prosperity, security, and stability of the Yemeni people. He underscored the importance of continuous efforts to find a political resolution to the crisis in Yemen, supporting the Yemeni people’s endeavors to develop a future roadmap for restoring the country’s stability, development, and prosperity.

Albudaiwi also extended gratitude towards the UN, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Sultanate of Oman for their instrumental roles in facilitating these critical measures. He highlighted the importance of all Yemeni parties’ commitment to implementing these measures for positive outcomes in Yemen.

Simultaneously, Saudi Arabia, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, lauded the announcement by UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, of a roadmap advancing peace in the war-torn Arab nation. The Ministry reiterated Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for Yemen and its people, advocating dialogue among Yemeni parties to achieve a comprehensive and lasting political solution under UN supervision.

Moreover, Qatar has also welcomed the UN Special Envoy’s efforts towards establishing a peace roadmap in Yemen. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope for the roadmap’s imminent signing, contributing to a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis. Qatar’s Ministry lauded the efforts of the UN, Saudi Arabia, and Oman in striving to bring sustainable peace to Yemen, fulfilling the Yemeni people’s aspirations for security, development, and prosperity.

This collective regional and international effort marks a significant stride towards ending the longstanding conflict in Yemen, opening avenues for peace and stability in the region.
