Iran floats 30-day roadmap to end conflict; Trump signals scepticism

Khamenei further signaled a shift in policy, stating Iran would implement “new legal frameworks and management of the Strait of Hormuz.
  • The proposal comes as a counter to a previously reported nine-point framework from the US and seeks to move beyond the current ceasefire toward a more permanent settlement
  • The fragile truce between Iran and Israel, brokered with US involvement, has held for now, but Washington has already rejected an earlier Iranian attempt to end the war

Iran has put forward a fresh 14-point proposal to the United States, calling for a resolution of tensions within 30 days and a complete end to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, according to state-linked media reports.

The proposal comes as a counter to a previously reported nine-point framework from the US and seeks to move beyond the current ceasefire — in place since April 8 — toward a more permanent settlement.

However, US President Donald Trump has expressed doubts about Tehran’s intentions. In a social media post, Trump wrote, “They have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years.”

The fragile truce between Iran and Israel, brokered with US involvement, has held for now, but Washington has already rejected an earlier Iranian attempt to end the war.

As part of ongoing diplomatic efforts, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently held talks with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, whose country has previously mediated between Tehran and Washington.

Key points in Iran’s proposal

The Iranian plan outlines a broad framework aimed at de-escalation and long-term stability in the region. It calls for:

  • Resolving all outstanding issues between Iran and the US within 30 days
  • Ending the war rather than extending the current ceasefire
  • Lifting US sanctions on Iran, including the release of frozen assets
  • An end to the US naval blockade of Iran
  • Withdrawal of US forces from the region
  • A halt to all hostilities, including Israel’s operations in Lebanon
  • Guarantees of non-aggression, including commitments from Israel
  • Gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz in the initial phase
  • Iran taking responsibility for clearing sea mines in the region

At the same time, the proposal makes clear that Tehran will not agree to dismantle its nuclear infrastructure, a long-standing demand from Washington.

It remains unclear whether the latest offer will gain traction, especially given Trump’s hardening stance and the deep mistrust between the two sides.
