Kuwait MP Hamad Al-Matar elected Inter-Parliamentary Union panel’s member

Kuwaiti MP Dr Hamad Al-Matar has been elected as a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)’s Committee on Sustainable Development, which comprises 18 members from across the world.
The IPU is the global organization of national parliaments that “empowers parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace,
democracy and sustainable development”.
Matar was elected at a coordination meeting of the Arab geopolitical group on Thursday that was held on the eve of the 143rd Assembly of the IPU in Madrid.
Chaired by Speaker of Bahrain’s Council of Representatives Fawzia bent Abdulla Yusuf Zainal, the meeting focused on Arab lobbying the international parliamentarians to support the Palestinian people who suffer from a deteriorating humanitarian situation.
The Arab parliamentarians reviewed the issues on the agenda of the 143rd Assembly, which is being held from Nov.26 to Nov.30, and ways to coordinate their stances on these issues.
All IPU statutory bodies, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and on Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young MPs, will convene during this Assembly.
