  • Tunisia has so far received medical aid from several Gulf and North African states
  • The UAE sent vaccine doses in July, while Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Egypt sent other aid last month

Saudi Arabia has agreed to send more medical aid to Tunisia to help the country battle Covid-19, local reports have said.

The request for more help is said to have come from Tunisian President Kais Saied.

King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud has reportedly directed health authorities to provide medical oxygen and accompanying supplies to Tunisia.

The package apparently includes 3,000 oxygen tanks, 200 tons of liquid, and five oxygen generators, besides other equipment and supplies.

Tunisia was recording highs of more than 8,000 coronavirus cases a day in July.

The official numbers have since gone down, and the North African state is averaging around 2,000 new infections per day.

Tunisia has a population of more than 11 million. It has so far seen more than 632,000 cases of Covid-19, which has resulted in 22,304 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The country has so far received medical aid from several Gulf and North African states amid the outbreak.

The United Arab Emirates sent vaccine doses in July. Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Egypt also sent aid last month.
