New UAE sports law aims for unified governance

The UAE is discussing a new sports law, aimed at transforming the nation's sports sector.

  • It also focuses on identifying and nurturing sporting talents in schools and clubs through national plans in collaboration with relevant authorities

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The new UAE sports aims to establish a unified governance framework for all sports organizations and categories in the UAE, fostering collaboration between public and private sectors. 

Unveiled by the UAE General Authority of Sports (GAS), the law encourages participation in sports across society, and aims to increase sports engagement to 71 percent of the population.

The law which aligns with the National Sports Strategy 2031 empowers sports entities to achieve excellence on local and global stages by promoting competition and talent discovery. It addresses various segments, including government and private sports organizations, sports arbitration, and the health sector, impacting the entire sports ecosystem.

To stimulate investments in sports and boost the sector’s contribution to the GDP, the law allows sports federations to enter into partnerships with institutions, both national and foreign. Moreover, it incorporates Special Olympics and the Hearing Impairment Committee to represent the nation in regional, continental, and international competitions.

It also focuses on identifying and nurturing sporting talents in schools and clubs through national plans in collaboration with relevant authorities.
