UAE sends food aid to Ethiopia’s Tigray region

The UAE has sent a plane carrying 35 tons of foodstuffs to Mekelle in the Tigray region, Ethiopia, as part of efforts to support the humanitarian situation.

Mohamed Al Rashidi, Ambassador of the UAE to Ethiopia, said the aid was sent following the directives of the UAE’s leadership to help improve the humanitarian situation in the Tigray region.

He emphasized the UAE’s commitment to a humanitarian approach that supports emergency relief in countries in need.

Al Rashidi added, “The UAE is keen on supporting the humanitarian situation in the Tigray region and seeks to meet the population’s needs resulting from food shortages.”

The UAE also sent six planes carrying 300 tons of relief and food supplies, including 200 tons of vegetable oil, in cooperation with the World Food Program to the city of Mekelle last year.

It has also sent 18.5 tons of medical supplies as part of global efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
